Preparing to Practice (P2P)

This year-long, required, 1L course prepares law students to more competitively and competently enter the professional world. P2P introduces 1Ls to the legal profession and provides an overview of the professionalism skills critical for success. Each semester, students learn specific professional development techniques from Law Career Services (LCS) facilitators and practicing attorneys.

Chicago Bar Association Complimentary Membership

DePaul provides each of its entering first year students complimentary membership to the Chicago Bar Association (CBA). The CBA is a fantastic professional resource for learning about different practice areas, developing networking skills, and becoming a new member of the Chicago legal community. For more information on how to take advantage of your CBA membership, check out their website here.

On Campus Interviews/Fall Recruiting

DePaul’s On-Campus Interview (OCI) program is held annually in the late summer and early fall. Student orientation takes place in the spring semester prior to OCI. All second and third year students may participate. The program consists of in-person or virtual interviews and resume collections with participating employers.  Students interested in participating may bid/apply for interviews using the OCI tab in Vincent. More information is available to students in the OCI Announcement on your Vincent homepage starting in the Spring of each year.

2L Mentor Program

This mentor program provides a unique opportunity for second-year students to meet an experienced Chicago area attorney, learn about practicing law, and continue to develop a professional network prior to graduation. For additional information about this program, please email law_career@depaul.edu.

Networking Events:

  • Practice Area Fair Exploration Fair: Held at the beginning of the fall term, this event provides students an opportunity to talk to attorneys practicing in a wide variety of practice areas.
  • Notable Alumni Lunches: Every semester, Law Career Services bring in distinguished alumni to meet with our students over an informal lunch so that students are able to connect with our alumni network in a small group setting.
  • Small Firm Networking Reception: Held in the spring, this event focuses on connecting our students with our alumni and friends of DePaul who are actively practicing with small firms.
  • Speed Networking Receptions: Held in fall, these events bring together students interested in developing a business/corporate practice and attorneys practicing in these areas of law. Events vary from year to year, and in past years have included a corporate transactional event and a corporate compliance event.
