Preparing to Practice (P2P)
This year-long, required, 1L course prepares law students to more competitively and competently enter the professional world. P2P introduces 1Ls to the legal profession and provides an overview of the professionalism skills critical for success. Each semester, students learn specific professional development techniques from PCD facilitators and practicing attorneys.
Bar Association Complimentary Membership
DePaul provides each of its entering first-year students complimentary membership to a bar association (to be selected at orientation). Bar associations are a fantastic professional resource for learning about different practice areas, developing networking skills and becoming a new member of the legal community.
On Campus Interviews/Fall Recruiting
DePaul’s On-Campus Interview (OCI) program is held annually in the late summer and early fall. Student orientation takes place in the spring semester prior to OCI. All second and third year students may participate. The program consists of in-person or virtual interviews and resume collections with participating employers. Students interested in participating may bid/apply for interviews using the OCI tab in Vincent. More information is available to students in the OCI Announcement on your Vincent homepage starting in the Spring of each year.
Chicago Bar Association’s Law Student Career Immersion Mentoring Program
The Chicago Bar Association's (CBA) Young Lawyer Section has developed a unique
career immersion mentoring program, which pairs rising 2L law students with attorney mentors who guide them through a series of experiences that benefit their careers. Examples of experiences may include conducting a mock interview, shadowing an attorney during a virtual hearing or deposition, or having an attorney edit a writing sample. You must be a current law student member of the CBA to participate. A limited number of mentors are available to students and pairings are made on a first come, first served basis.
Networking Events:
- Job Fairs: Held in Spring semester, these job fairs focus on connecting students and graduating students with employers looking to bring on clerks for the upcoming summer, as well as attorneys after graduation.
- Meet the Government Employers: Held in early Spring, this event focuses on connecting students with government employers throughout the Midwest.
- All Student & Recent Alumni Networking Reception: Held in late Spring, this event focuses on connecting our students with our recent alumni who are actively practicing for less than five years.
