Hillary Cook
will be graduated from DePaul University College of Law in May. She attended the University of Dayton for her
undergraduate studies, and graduated in May 2013 with a dual degree in
Communications and Political Science. In
her interview, Hillary shared her experiences at DePaul, her gratitude toward
the Jaharis Health Law Institute, and her excitement about moving forward with
her legal career.
Originally
from Indiana, Hillary expressed an interest in the legal profession and
becoming a lawyer at a very young age.
Throughout her undergraduate career she made strides to prepare herself
for her legal education. Similarly to
her curiosity with the legal profession, Hillary has always had a passion for
the legal side of healthcare, specifically the relationships between patients
and their physicians.
Hillary
believes that the Jaharis Health Law Institute, with the help of Professors
Schostok and Epstein, has helped further her health law education in various
ways. While attending DePaul, Hillary
took a wide variety of health law classes, and she believes that each of these benefited
her in one way or another. She stated
that her favorite classes were Medical Malpractice, Fraud and Abuse with
Professor Schostok, and Health Policy and the Law with Professor Epstein.
In closing,
Hillary offered some advice to rising health law students, and law students in
general. Balance. She emphasized the importance of finding a
balance between school and other commitments, as well as, the importance of
managing stress. Law school is just a
step toward where you want to be, but you still have to maintain outside relationships
in order to better yourself as a lawyer and as a person overall.
Hillary
will be starting at The Law Offices of Michael Barolic as an associate
attorney. She will primarily be handling
cases involving disability law. From all of us here at E-Pulse,
congratulations!
