If you're interested in shaping the future of health law, the Mary & Michael Jaharis Health Law Institute (JHLI) offers one of the most respected and comprehensive programs in the country. Established in 1984 and renamed in 2015 to honor Michael Jaharis (JD ’58) and his wife Mary, JHLI continues to lead with a forward-thinking approach to legal education in the health care space. Consistently rated A+ for Health Law by preLaw Magazine and ranked among the top 20% of Health Law programs nationwide by U.S. News & World Report, DePaul Law’s health law program has earned national recognition for preparing students for impactful careers.  

As a JHLI student, you’ll gain a powerful combination of classroom knowledge and real-world experience
that prepares you for a meaningful career in health law. You’ll engage directly with the legal and policy challenges shaping modern health care—whether your interests lie in delivery systems, compliance, public health, bioethics or health policy. Through immersive coursework, paid summer placements, externships, fellowships, moot court, journal work and mentoring, you’ll develop your skills while joining a community committed to improving health care access and equity. JHLI also serves as a hub for alumni and practitioners, hosting CLE-accredited programs that foster cross-sector dialogue and innovation across Chicago’s legal, medical and academic communities.
