Natalie Skizas is a soon-to-be graduate of the DePaul University College of Law Class of 2019. Natalie received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, where she studied Sport-Communication Broadcasting and was a member of Indiana’s UCA National Championship-winning cheerleading team. She also competed as a member of Team USA’s All-Girl, gold-medal World Championship squad. As a hardworking student athlete, Natalie developed many of the skills she would ultimately use in law school—an endeavor she began to consider after taking a sports law class her senior year.
After graduating from Indiana, Natalie’s work at Roberts & Caruso in her hometown of Wheaton, IL solidified her interest in becoming a lawyer. For future law students, taking time off to gain professional skills can be a very rewarding experience, and one that Natalie would strongly recommend. During her time at DePaul, Natalie has earned various CALI Awards and served as a teaching assistant for courses in legal writing and moot court. She is also a member of the Appellate Moot Court Society’s executive board, a position through which she organized the Hon. William J. Bauer Moot Court Competition.
As Natalie prepares to graduate, move to Dallas, and take the Texas Bar Exam, she reflects on the things she will miss about Chicago including its unique architecture, diverse neighborhoods and foods, and her family. Natalie credits close relationships with the many doctors in her family as the source of her initial interest in medical malpractice and health care law generally, leading her to join the Jaharis Health Law Institute. As a fellow, she has enjoyed learning about legal perspectives within the health care field through the annual symposium and lecture series.
In addition to her academic involvement, Natalie’s professional career as a law student demonstrates her appreciation of a broad spectrum of legal topics. At different law firms, she has garnered experience in fields such as products liability, medical malpractice, probate, estate planning, and banking. Through her most recent position at Chuhak & Tecson in Chicago, Natalie has worked in her favorite field—corporate and commercial litigation—which she hopes to continue upon moving to Dallas.
