Joshua Lizama originally came to DePaul to be a part of the Health Law Institute. His interests changed and by the second year I was working more in Family law. Then the summer before my 3L year, I transitioned to criminal law. Now Josh wants to stick with litigation. He is not entirely sure the exact field of practice he will end up in, but he would prefer to stay in criminal law for some time. He would say that his time at DePaul has been diverse experience. Josh has taken all types of classes, trying to get exposure to many different areas of practice. Josh has enjoyed his time at DePaul and have made many strong friendships.
During his time at DePaul, Criminal Procedure 1 was his favorite class. Professor Monu Bedi was a great teacher, and really helped you understand the material while making it very interesting.
Another great experience was that DePaul provided plenty of opportunities to gain practical experiences and knowledge through externship and internship opportunities.
His biggest piece of advice for students is to take as many Bar classes as possible, but take advantage of what DePaul offers to gain practical experience such as externships, mock trial, and trial ad.
His goals for the summer are to continue studying for the California Bar, spend time doing outdoor activities, workout, and work on Classic cars. We wish Josh the best of luck on all of his goals!
