Nesko Radovic is a native of Belgrade, Serbia. He immigrated to the U.S. in 2002, after the conclusion of the civil wars and bombings. While in Serbia, he attended University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philology, as well as Megatrend University School of Business. After moving to Washington, D.C., Nesko graduated from Strayer University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, majoring in Business Management. After starting at DePaul Law, he realized that health law is a fascinating area of the law, because it combined a plethora of different legal subjects and practices under one big umbrella. It also provides and intersection between business, science and the law, and the opportunity for continuous learning is ever present.
At DePaul, under the guidance of Professor Wendy Epstein, Nesko took a number of Health Law classes and got involved with the Jaharis Health Law Institute. He worked as a Summer Scholar for Presence Health and was given the opportunity to stay for the following semester. Nesko was also a staff writer for the DePaul Journal of Health Care Law, as well as the Jaharis Health Law Institute E-Pulse. Finally, in his 3L year, he was a member of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, and represented DePaul in both the Loyola Chicago Pre-Moot and the final competition in Vienna, Austria.
As a student, Nesko’s favorite classes were Health Policy and the Law with Professor Wendy Epstein, Securities Regulation with Professor Cary Martin-Shelby, and Antitrust with Professor Michael Jacobs. He also found Trial Advocacy and Legal Drafting to be crucial in providing experience in practical skills that are applicable to a lawyer’s daily practice. But, even more enjoyable were the hybrid online classes, namely health Fraud and Abuse by Professor Katherine Schostok, Health Policy and the Law, and Partnership Tax by Professor Emily Cauble. Hybrid classes base learning on doing smaller projects throughout the semester, allowing the student to fully immerse in the subject matter.
In his opinion Nesko learned the most from his externships and clerkships. He believes that participating in externships is the most important thing for any law student to do. Through DePaul, and JHLI specifically, Nesko was exposed early to working in the health law field, and has subsequently worked in-house, for the government, in medium-size law firms, and big law firms.
Nesko’s advice to rising 1L’s and 2L’s is to remember to have fun, try as many things as they can, and don’t pigeon hole yourself. Journals, Moot Court, and Study Abroad are crucial for enjoying law school and making lifetime friendships. Nesko believes that the trip to Havana, Cuba was definitely one of his best decisions in law school.
Nesko will be graduating from DePaul University College of Law with a Business Law Certificate. He will be taking the Illinois Bar exam in July 2017. Nesko is currently working as a law clerk for the Nixon Peabody LLP Health Care Group, and he hopes to finalize his plans for employment soon.
