Current Fellow

Nicole Schur

Nicole Schur is a public interest attorney who joined DePaul Law as a Racial Justice Initiative Fellow in November 2024. Her research will center on systemic racism within Illinois’s criminal justice, carceral and policing systems. Before joining DePaul, Schur served as a senior attorney at Cabrini Green Legal Aid (CGLA) where she provided full-service records relief for clients, represented self-represented petitioners in sealing and expungement cases and managed CGLA’s pro bono program. Previously, she clerked for the Honorable Justice Mary L. Mikva of the Illinois Appellate Court and taught English in Lübeck, Germany as a Fulbright grantee. Schur holds a BA, magna cum laude, in International Studies and Psychology from Miami University and a JD from Washington University School of Law.

nathan bennett-fleming

As DePaul College of Law's inaugural Racial Justice Fellow, Nathan Fleming studied and advocated for vulnerable communities in Chicago. He is a doctoral candidate in higher education at the University of Pennsylvania, researching important questions at the intersection of law, race, public policy, and education. His dissertation explores the evolution of mission at Historically Black Law Schools and provides an up-to-date account of the history of African Americans in American law schools.
