Disrupting Systems of Injustice Through Research, Training & Advocacy

DePaul College of Law’s Racial Justice Initiative (RJI) brings together students, lawyers, researchers, policymakers and activists to collaborate on community-driven solutions to advance racial justice, specifically in Chicago and Illinois. Working at the nexus of public policy and the legal system, the RJI will take an interdisciplinary approach to tackling racial injustice and inequity in policing, housing, economic opportunity, education, health and voting rights.

Led by Faculty Director Manoj Mate and Fellow Nathan Fleming, the RJI supervises six student research assistants who tackle specific areas of interest and are assigned to relevant community advocacy organizations that have expertise in those particular areas.

This website will serve as home base for the RJI.  It will feature community convenings, research projects, blog posts, and resources for community members to learn and get involved in the broader fight for racial justice in Chicago and in Illinois.
