Membership in the International Human Rights Law Institute (IHRLI) is open to all DePaul University College of Law students. Membership is a way for law students to gain substantive knowledge about international human rights law outside of the classroom. Additionally, members will have an opportunity to become familiar with IHRLI’s operations and projects. Membership meetings and activities will provide likeminded students with the opportunity to discuss topical issues in the field of international human rights law, opportunities to study international human rights law and information on potential careers.
International Human Rights Law Institute Membership Requirements:
- Attendance of IHRLI Membership meetings throughout the academic year:
- Meetings will be between 45 – 60 minutes and will be held between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm
- Items to be discussed at meetings include:
- 10 – 15 minute presentations on a current human rights issue. (These presentations will be given by IHRLI members or IHRLI Board Members)
- 10 – 15 minute follow up discussion of the legal framework surrounding the issue (provided by IHRLI Staff or IHRLI members or IHRLI Fellows)
- Discussion of new opportunities at IHRLI and DePaul University College of Law for students interested in international human rights law
- Completion of small assigned tasks in relation to the planning of events and implementation of projects; and/or
- Presentation of a current topic related to international human rights law.
International Human Rights Law Institute Membership Opportunities:
- Become acquainted with students interested in rights based issues;
- Learn about international human rights law;
- Have the opportunity to be matched with a second or third year student who is also interested in international human rights law;
- Get information on course scheduling and how to work human rights courses into your schedule;
- Get information on international human rights law events in the greater Chicago area; and
- Get information on internships/externships opportunities and potential careers in the field of international human rights law.
