Testing Accommodations for the Bar Exam and Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam

Students should review the accommodation application requirements early to learn which documents they need to provide to support their accommodation request and the deadlines for filing. Some students may need to update their documentation or complete additional testing to meet the standards set by the bar examiners.

Nonstandard Testing Accommodation (NTA) is a form of accommodation provided to applicants with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) who have conditions such as physical impairments, learning disorders, visual and hearing impairments, and psychiatric and psychological disorders. A NTA accommodation may deviate from the standard testing schedule.

A NTA accommodation may be provided to qualified applicants with disabilities in connection with a bar examination or administration of the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) to the extent such accommodation is reasonable, consistent with the nature and purpose of the examination, and necessitated, in each instance, by the disability of the applicant. The burden of proof is on the applicant to establish both the existence of a disability, as defined by the ADA and the corresponding need for the specific NTA requested.

The deadlines to request a NTA for the MPRE or a bar exam vary by date of exam and bar exam jurisdiction.
