About the Center
For more than two decades, the Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center has shaped the field of family law in Chicago and beyond. Part of DePaul Law's
Program of Excellence in Family Law, the Center connects you to a powerful combination of academic opportunities, hands-on legal experience and professional mentorship that prepares you to lead in the field.
Established in 2003, the Center has helped train hundreds of students and promoted meaningful reform in the field of family law. DePaul Law offers a wide range of coursework in areas such as divorce, adoption, child advocacy, juvenile justice, elder law and more. Through this curriculum, you will benefit from rigorous academic instruction and practical experiences including externships, pro bono placements, a domestic violence practicum, and a family law field clinic in partnership with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, giving you the chance to advocate for families in need while building real-world legal skills.
You also may earn a JD Certificate in Family Law by pursuing one of three specialized tracks—divorce/marital dissolution, child advocacy or elder law—each designed to support distinct career goals. The Center also provides academic and career counseling, sponsors 1L fellowships for summer internships and hosts symposia, lectures and community programming that connect you to leaders in the field.
Whether you’re exploring family law for the first time or already committed to the practice, the Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center offers the community, resources and expertise to help you thrive.
