Assistant Professor Julie Gilgoff joined DePaul Law from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School in 2025. She researches and teaches in the areas of property law, housing and homelessness policy, as well as estate planning. She has published in several journals including Villanova Law Review, San Diego Law Review, and a forthcoming piece in UCLA Law Review. As a featured panelist at various housing symposia, including the University of Connecticut School of Law's “Housing in the 21st Century" and the University of San Francisco School of Law's “Navigating Gentrification in our Changing Cities," Professor Gilgoff provides a fresh perspective about innovative housing solutions.
Prior to entering legal academia, she helped create co-housing communities, as well as housing and worker cooperatives as an attorney at Sustainable Economies Law Center in Oakland, CA. She also led the Legal Services for Entrepreneurs team of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights of the San Franscisco Bay Area, negotiating rent relief and amended lease agreements for small businesses in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Professor Gilgoff received a BA from Barnard College of Columbia University, an MA and JD from City University of New York, and she is a licensed attorney in New York, New Jersey and California.
