3L Spotlight: Melanie Haywood

Melanie Haywood, originally from Michigan, received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University. She chose to move to Chicago to attend DePaul University College of Law and has not regretted her decision. Although law school has been a long journey and a tough road, she believes the entire experience has been absolutely worth it and has made incredible friends along the way.

Throughout her time at DePaul, Melanie excelled in classes such as Contracts, Constitutional Law, Business Organizations, and Secured Transactions. She found the curriculum for each class very interesting and the professors also taught the information effectively. Melanie has a strong interest in health law, particularly compliance. Her interest in this broad field led her to become a part of the Jaharis Health Law Institute.

Upon graduation from law school, Melanie has accepted a position at Chapman and Cutler LLP. Although she will not be working in a health law position, she believes that the Jaharis Health Law Institute has prepared her to excel in a variety of areas.

Looking back at her three years at DePaul, Melanie has some advice for 1Ls and rising 2Ls that are interested in health law. She urges them to apply for the summer scholars program. She expresses that this program provides a great amount of experience and an abundance of connections to the health field in Chicago and beyond.

Everyone at the Jaharis Health Law Institute wishes Melanie all the best and we cannot wait to see her inevitable success as an attorney.
