During her time at DePaul University College of Law, Andrea took a variety of health law courses but two stood out amongst the rest: “Health Care: Fraud and Abuse” with Professor Katherine Schostok and “Health Information Technology Law and Policy” with Professor Sibyl Medie.
In addition to Aurora Health Care, Andrea had internships with Merieux NutriSciences, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, and the Office of Health Information Technology (OHIT). Andrea’s time at OHIT proved to be a huge turning point, as it further solidified her desire to work in the policy realm of health law. It was also at OHIT, that she had the opportunity to work alongside Attorney Mark Chudzinski, whose leadership and mentorship provided Andrea with constant motivation while also allowing her legal skills to evolve.
Back in February, Andrea accepted a position with the American Medical Association and will be graduating from DePaul Winter 2015. Although she is happily employed at the moment and excited for what the future might hold for her, Andrea says that if she had a dream job it would be working for the Travel Channel.
Regardless of the health law track one decides to pursue, Andrea believes that it is of paramount importance to find your career. She feels that all too often, students get caught up paying too much attention to what others are doing, instead of focusing their energy on their true passions and interests.
The DePaul Health Law Institute and the E-Pulse wish Andrea all the best!
