Center for Public Interest Law

About the Center

If you want to use your law degree to help others, you will find a warm, welcoming and empowering community at the DePaul Law Center for Public Interest Law (CPIL).

Founded in 2006, CPIL is a hub for students passionate about social justice, service and public interest careers.  From your first day of class to long after graduation, CPIL provides the academic, experiential and financial support needed to use the law for social change and human rights.

At CPIL, we invite you to:

  • Learn: Explore public interest law from all perspectives through electives and clinics taught by nationally recognized practitioners. Completing the JD Certificate in Public Interest Law also signals a deep commitment to this field.
  • Serve: Volunteer and intern at organizations dedicated to social justice and make a real difference with your legal training and time. The Pro Bono & Community Service Initiative, summer scholarships and the Loan Repayment Assistance Program also help you serve while managing financial realities.
  • Connect: Join a vibrant network of peers, faculty, staff and alumni who share a commitment to public interest work. These connections extend far beyond the three years of law school and provide community throughout your career.

At DePaul Law, public interest is not a just career path—it's part of our foundation.
