Carl Gilmore practices family law and general civil litigation with Metz, Gilmore & Vaclavek in Crystal Lake, Illinois.  He is the author the ISBA book, Illinois Parentage Law, as well as the Adoption and Parentage chapters for Lexis/Nexis's 2015 and 2021 editions of Illinois Family Law.  He also wrote the Parentage chapter of IICLE's Illinois Causes of Action book.  ​Gilmore has contributed heavily to various periodicals and online publications.  Additionally, from 1998 to 2018, he served on the editorial board of Family Advocate magazine, where he produced many family law practice-oriented issues.

Prior to his legal career, Gilmore was a newspaper reporter, photographer and editor, during which he received distinctions for in-depth reporting.  He resides in Woodstock with his wife and two sons.
