On Friday, November 17, 2017, Pro Bono & Community Service Initiative (PBCSI)
partnered with DePaul Law’s Veteran Advocacy Student Organization (VASO) and Volunteers of America (VOA) for the last Donate-a-Day of the semester. VOA provides human services programs to veterans, children and the elderly. DePaul Law volunteers painted a veteran’s studio apartment at Hope Manor I, on the city’s west side. “The experience was surreal,” said first year law student Deja Fox. “I felt a deep appreciation for the social responsibility that we owe to veterans. We were afforded the opportunity to paint the apartment of a veteran who served 16 years and was left disabled as a result. Not only did we paint his apartment, but we also moved all of his things because his disability did not allow him to do so. I am forever grateful to DePaul for the opportunity to do something so special for someone who sacrificed so much for me without even knowing me personally. He was so happy and appreciative for the work we completed, and that feeling was invaluable.”
Please join PBCSI for our first Donate-a-Day of the year on January 13, 2018. Volunteers will join Marillac House in celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Marillac’s annual Peace Fair. For more information, email PBCSI Student Coordinator Liz Toth at toth.liz67@gmail.com.
