Just the Beginning's 2022 Summer Legal Institute (SLI) Chicago, hosted by DePaul Law, was a huge success. Dean Jenn welcomed 44 bright and eager scholars who spent the week learning about the legal profession and developing skills that will carry them through high school, college and hopefully law school.
Throughout the week, SLI scholars participated in mock law school classes, learned about financial literacy and developed professional etiquette skills. They visited the federal courthouse and had discussions with federal judges and assistant U.S. attorneys. They learned about various areas of the law, such as environmental justice and torts. Attorneys from Abbott Laboratories also hosted a full day of activities, including presentation practice, speed networking and an attorney panel. The week culminated in a final oral argument competition.
The students were very engaged and quickly grasped legal concepts, and we know they will do great things in the future!
Just The Beginning offers pipeline programs directly aimed at inspiring young students and increasing diversity in the legal profession and judiciary.
