The Pro Bono & Community Service Initiative (PBCSI) celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with service during our first Donate-A-Day of 2022 with UCAN and the GROWSS committee of the North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council’s Soup for the Soul program on Monday, January 17th. Soup for the Soul is a mutual aid program launched in late 2020 to help Lawndale families experiencing food insecurity.
Student and staff volunteers prepared soup from scratch and then assisted with food and clothing distribution at Stone Temple Missionary Baptist Church. It was especially meaningful to volunteer at that site on MLK Day as Dr. King preached at Stone Temple during his time living in Chicago.
