The Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic hosted an event with immigrant advocates through which students, faculty, staff and the larger DePaul community learned of the effects of immigration detention and “remain in Mexico” policies on individuals and communities. Expert speakers provided eyewitness accounts of working in Tijuana with asylum-seekers being turned back at the US-Mexico border, the context of immigration detention in El Paso and the community response, the consequences of family detention and family separation policies on parents and children, and the challenges in navigating the legal process in Immigration Court in Chicago.
