Reporting Policies

If you are currently under physical threat or concerned for your immediate safety, please call 911 or contact Public Safety at 773-325-7777. 

While we strive to be a civil and cooperative community, we recognize that these values may be impacted by someone's behavior or actions, and you may want to talk to someone or report an issue more formally.

Faculty Incidents  

If the issue involves a full-time or adjunct faculty member, please contact Associate Dean Max Helveston to determine if an informal resolution is possible.  Dean Jennifer Rosato Perea will be consulted as needed. 

Student Incidents  

If the issue involves another student, please contact Assistant Dean Maria Vertuno in the Office of Student Affairs for resolution. 

Incidents of Discrimination and/or Harassment 

If the behavior or action involves discrimination and/or harassment, please report the issue to Assistant Dean Maria Vertuno and/or Director Ana Vazquez-Rivera in the Office of Student Affairs, who can attempt to resolve it without invoking a formal process. 

Formal Reports to DePaul University/Central Administration 

In addition to bringing an issue to the attention of the law school administrators designated above, if preferred, a formal report can be made to the University.  When a formal process is initiated, the University, not the law school, makes the findings related to discrimination or harassment, which are enforced by the College of Law.   
 
  • Discrimination and Harassment: The University’s Discrimination and Harassment policy is located here. Individuals who believe they have been subjected to discrimination, harassment or retaliation can report incidents here.   
  • Gender Based Discrimination: Issues involving gender-based discrimination must be reported to the Director of Gender Equity. The University’s Title IX policy is located here.  

ABA Program of Legal Education 

If the issue involves a significant problem that directly implicates the College of Law’s program of legal education and its compliance with the ABA Standards, you should report pursuant to the ABA Student Complaint Policy.

If you have any questions about where best to raise an issue, Assistant Dean Maria Vertuno and/or Director Ana Vazquez-Rivera in the Office of Student Affairs are available and willing to assist you.  If you are more comfortable speaking with other College of Law faculty or staff members, we encourage you to do so. 

Please understand that, depending on the nature of the complaint, the College of Law may be required to direct those complaints to the University’s Division of Student Affairs, Title IX officer or other University administrators for review and resolution. The College of Law’s Office of Student Affairs works closely with the University’s Division of Student Affairs when complaints are directed to them.
