TIP Clinic Mission: Protecting the Creative Works of Creative Minds
Fall and Spring semester: 5 credits
The TIP Clinic, a successor to one of the first intellectual property clinics in the country, enables students to gain practice experience in Intellectual Property and Technology law. As the law school’s first Field Clinic, students work off-site with law firms and partner organizations specifically chosen for their ability to expose you to intellectually challenging and exciting legal issues. Clients could include entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, authors and inventors who need assistance in protecting their creations and businesses. The TIP Clinic is an integral component of the College of Law's nationally ranked Intellectual Property program.
TIP site locations vary from semester to semester.

TIP Clinic Collaboration with CDM
DePaul’s Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) trains students in the development of creative content and expressive works. The process of creating original content often gives rise to related intellectual property questions about ownership, fair use and proprietary rights. Beginning in Spring 2021, TIP Clinic students provide limited scope legal guidance to select CDM students who encounter intellectual property legal issues as part of developing their creative works. A TIP Clinic student is assigned as the primary legal counsel for the CDM student's legal issue enabling the TIP Clinic student the experience of contacting the CDM student 'client', performing an intake interview, identifying the legal service needed and providing the legal services it in a timely manner under the supervision of the Clinic Professor. Simultaneously, CDM students gain the benefit of free legal support to help them develop and achieve their creative goals. CDM Adjunct Professor Keely Wise, herself a DePaul law graduate and intellectual property attorney, initiated this collaboration. We are excited about this new interdisciplinary collaboration.
