Real-World Experience from the Start
At DePaul Law, experiential learning starts in your first year through our required Legal Analysis, Research & Communication program, a rigorous three-semester progression where you build foundational skills in legal reasoning, research and writing through close guidance from faculty and dedicated teaching assistants.
In your second and third years, you have a wide range of opportunities to gain hands-on experience through legal clinics, externships, moot court and trial competitions, professional skills courses, academic journals and pro bono service opportunities. Together, these experiences help you explore practice areas, apply your legal knowledge and develop the skills, judgment and confidence to move from law student to legal professional.
Located in Chicago’s Loop, DePaul Law places you within blocks of state and federal courts, Chicago-based and global law firms and corporations, and an array of government offices, public interest organizations and advocacy groups. You will engage with real-world legal issues and learn from experienced attorneys and faculty across one of the nation’s most active legal communities.
Legal Writing
Through our Legal Analysis, Research & Communication (LARC) Program, you’ll strengthen your legal research, analysis and writing skills through a three-semester sequence of increasingly complex assignments. With close guidance from LARC faculty and teaching assistants, you’ll build the foundation for clear, effective legal communication.
