Preparing Students for Legal Practice in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
DePaul Law prepares you for a profession where lawyers increasingly need to understand both the possibilities and limits of artificial intelligence (AI). Through our Legal Analysis, Research & Communication (LARC) Program, you are introduced to generative AI and best practices for using these technologies responsibly in legal education and practice. You learn how AI tools work, how these tools can support legal research and writing, and where they fall short. You also examine the ethical, professional and strategic risks these technologies present, reinforcing the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, independent analysis and sound legal judgment.
You also gain access to Harvey, an AI platform designed for legal and professional services. Law firms, in-house legal teams and other organizations use Harvey to support work in areas such as legal research, document analysis, contract review, compliance and litigation. By pairing responsible AI instruction with access to a platform built for legal work, DePaul Law gives you early practical exposure to the technologies changing how lawyers research, analyze, draft and evaluate legal information.
By engaging with AI in law school, you begin developing the habits and perspective needed to use these technologies in practice. This foundation helps ensure that you are not encountering AI for the first time on the job.
