Public Interest Law Skill Series: Client Interviewing and Intake Training

Debi Filipovich, supervising attorney with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS), will conduct a three-part training session focused on client interviewing skills, spotting legal issues and writing strong case memorandum. Students will be assigned three CVLS clients and will complete client interviews and intake memos.

Lunch Discussion with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Child Protection Division

Participants will learn about how issues involving child abuse, child neglect, child dependency, private guardianship and termination of parental rights are handled; law clerk positions within the division and how to apply; and additional resources for learning more about the field.

Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center Annual Family Law Symposium: Hidden Forms of Domestic Violence

The 2026 Family Law Symposium will examine the following hidden forms of domestic violence as they arise in family law cases: economic violence between partners, technology-facilitated abuse, and the role of traumatic brain injury in divorce and separation cases. A judicial panel will also discuss what judges see in the courtroom and how practitioners can address hidden domestic violence in their cases. The Symposium will conclude with a networking reception.
