Each spring, DePaul Law hosts a rising star in civil justice as the Clifford Scholar-in-Residence. This program complements the Clifford Symposium, which has successfully brought together leading civil justice scholars for over 30 years to share ideas and publish their work. In some years, the Clifford Symposium has highlighted “rising stars," who have presented their work with in-depth commentary from senior scholars.
The Clifford Scholar-in-Residence program continues the tradition of developing up-and-coming civil justice scholars. Past scholars include:
- Zachary Clopton (Northwestern)
- Maria Glover (Georgetown)
- Pamela Bookman (Fordham)
- Seth Katsuya Endo (Seattle)
- Andrew Hammond (Indiana)
The Clifford Scholar is selected by a committee of leading civil justice professors, led by Professor Stephan Landsman (DePaul and Brooklyn).
DePaul Law hosts the Clifford Scholar for one day during spring semester. The Scholar participates in classes and faculty activities commensurate with their area(s) of expertise, culminating in a presentation of interest to the DePaul community.
Preference is given to full-time, tenure-track or tenured law professors five to 10 years into their scholarly career with the potential to become a nationally recognized scholar in civil justice.
An honorarium of $10,000 is paid to the selected Scholar, in addition to reimbursement of travel expenses.
