3L Spotlight: Tamalyn Wandler

Tamalyn Wandler was born and raised in southern New Jersey, and she came to Chicago for her undergraduate studies in 2010. Tamalyn graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2014 with a dual degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice & Criminology and a minor in Islamic World Studies. Tamalyn believed she was going to be an attorney since she was seven, so the natural step after undergrad was law school.

Throughout her law school career, Tamalyn’s favorite health law classes were Health Policy, Fraud and Abuse, and Health Care Delivery Systems. She found the material in these courses interesting because she is able to apply what she learned in those classes to her job.

When asked how DePaul has helped prepare her for her career, Tamalyn says that DePaul does a great job of utilizing faculty who are experienced in the health care field to prepare students for the real world of health law. Tamalyn’s advice for rising 1L’s and 2L’s is to take as many classes as possible and build relationships with professors. DePaul professors have large professional networks, and they are always willing to make new connections for their students.

After graduation, Tamalyn plans on continuing to clerk for her current law firm. After she passes the bar, she hopes to transition into an associate within that firm.
