Student Organizations

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Student organizations offer students limitless opportunities for professional development. Below is a list of all of the student organizations offered.

The American Constitution Society (ACS) is a national network of lawyers, law students, scholars, judges and policymakers who believe that the law should be a force to improve the lives of all people. ACS works for positive change by shaping debate on vitally important legal and constitutional issues through the development and promotion of high-impact ideas. We are dedicated to infusing progressive values into American law and politics and believe deeply in the importance of law as the mechanism which governs the relationships between and among the individuals and institutions that form our society, recognizing the direct relationship between legal theory and the broader political debate about the kind of society in which we live.

The DePaul Appellate Moot Court Society is a student-run organization committed to the advancement of oral and written advocacy, the furtherance of practical legal skills, and scholastic excellence.

The Appellate Moot Court Society represents the College of Law in law school moot court competitions nationwide in various areas of the law. The society also hosts an intramural appellate competition. Students who have completed their first year of law school are invited to participate in the intramural competition.

The goal of the Art & Cultural Heritage Law Society (ACHLS) is to put DePaul students in touch with legal professionals whose practice areas affect museums, the art market, contemporary artists and cultural heritage. The society accomplishes this objective by providing student mentoring, hosting networking events at DePaul and in the greater Chicago community, and arranging guest speakers. Additionally, the society works closely with professional organizations in order to offer DePaul students the chance to learn about the evolving and diverse legal landscape of art and cultural heritage law, and it strives to provide practical opportunities for students within their chose career field.

The Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) strives to identify, address and promote awareness of Asian American concerns at the school, city, national and international levels. APALSA establishes scholarships, hosts events and speakers, creates networking opportunities for students and practitioners, serves as a support group for students, acts as a point of contact between students and alumnae/i, and seeks to increase Asian American representation in the legal field and beyond.
 

The term Asian American includes persons from the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific Islands.

The Business Law Society promotes social and academic interaction among DePaul Law students interested in the various aspects of business, corporate and financial law. The BLS sponsors social activities, speakers and symposia that encourage cultural exchange and academic discussion, and generally provides a forum through which members may pursue their interests in developing a career in business law.

CFLA cultivates interest and understanding in Child & Family Law and is designed to foster communication between DePaul College of Law students, the greater Chicago community, faculty and organizations in this area of law.

The Decalogue Society of Lawyer is the nation’s oldest Jewish bar association. Decalogue’s mission is to advance our lawyers’ professional development, raise the standards of the bar and bench, educate the public on legal and Jewish issues, and maintain vigilance against discriminatory public and private practices, particularly antisemitism. Decalogue is dedicated to supporting Jewish interests through building relationships with attorneys and professionals in other ethnic and religious organizations and the Jewish community at large.

The Entertainment and Sports Law Society provides a forum for students interested in entertainment and sports law. The society facilitates access to alumni and professionals for discussion of legal issues at the forefront of the industry, as well as networking opportunities. Society members are given the opportunity to collaborate and innovate in preparation of becoming future leaders within the dynamic fields of both entertainment and sports.

The DePaul Federal Bar Association strives to strengthen the federal legal system and administration of justice by serving the interests and the needs of the Federal practitioner, both public and private, the federal judiciary, and the public they serve. The association accomplishes this goal by connecting students to the federal judicial system through the national and regional chapters of the Federal Bar Association.

The Federalist Society is a group of libertarians and conservatives interested in the current state of the legal order. It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.

At DePaul University College of Law, the Federalist Society seeks to open and to balance the debate on legal issues. In addition to inviting speakers to the law school for lectures and debates, we host a variety of social events throughout the year. Whenever possible, the society invites speakers on both sides of the issue in order to present a balanced discussion on the topic.

First Generation Law Student Organization (First Gen) is committed to supporting academically, financially, and socially those who identify as first-generation law students and come from a low-income or working-class background in reaching graduation and preparing for their careers.

The Intellectual Property Law Society's (IPLS's) mission is to put DePaul students in touch with the IP legal community, through mentoring and hosting practicing IP professionals as speakers. The IPLS also works closely with CIPLIT to offer DePaul students the chance to learn about the evolving and diverse legal landscape of IP and strives to provide practical opportunities for students within their chosen career field.

The International Law Society is a collection of DePaul law students who share the common passion of international relations and international law. The Justinian Society of Lawyers is an Italian American law association with over 100-years of history. The DePaul chapter supports and promotes the goals of Italian American law students at DePaul University. The DePaul Justinian’s aim to increase exposure and understanding of the Italian American community through speakers, seminars and casual gatherings.

Middle Eastern North African Law Student Association (MENALSA) is a space for law students of Middle Eastern and North African descent to come together and celebrate their heritage. MENALSA embarks on many efforts including activism, philanthropy, religious observation and social gatherings! While this organization was created as a safe space for those who fall under the MENA category, we welcome all law students who would like to join our organization.

The Muslim Law Student Association (MLSA) supports and advocates for Muslim law students at DePaul University. The members of MLSA continually seek to enrich the lives of all students, faculty and staff of DePaul University College of Law by increasing exposure to, awareness of and understanding of the Muslim community and the domestic and international legal issues pertaining to the Islamic world.

Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International is a professional service organization composed of pre-law students, law students, legal educators, attorneys, judges and government officials. Phi Alpha Delta was founded in 1902 for the purpose of promoting professional competency and achievement within the legal profession. It is also the first law fraternity to admit women. In furtherance of the fraternities mission, the Joseph Story Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta at the DePaul University College of Law facilitates the organization of professional speaker events, social gatherings, student support networks and various other campus enriching activities.

PILA seeks to communicate to law students the needs of the underrepresented and the ways legal training can be used to effect justice in our community and the world. PILA provides law students with networking opportunities in the area of public interest law and serves as a conduit for law students to learn about different areas of public interest law. PILA raises money for summer stipends, which it awards to students who work pro bono in the public interest area

The Society for Asylum & Immigration Law (SAIL) exposes law students to the area of asylum and immigration law through guest speakers, presentations, conferences and more. SAIL accepts and encourages an exchange of ideas between different points of view in an effort to create a more complete and educated dialogue.

The DePaul Women's Bar Association promises to strive to meet our own goals and the goals of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois. We will work to advance women's interests in the local community. We will also sponsor events for area law students, professors and practitioners to attend. We will strive to enhance DePaul's image by promoting women's issues and progress within the field of law. We will also work to serve the community through service and involvement.
