JD/Master in International & European Business Law

The Juris Doctor (JD) and Master in International and European Business Law (MIEBL) is an innovative three-year, joint degree program that offers you a unique opportunity to learn the law governing international business transactions in the European Union (EU) through a two-semester immersion experience at Pontificia Universidad Comillas School of Law in Madrid—the highest-ranked private law school in Spain and one of the most prestigious law schools in Europe. The program courses are all in English.
Program Structure
As a full-time student enrolled at DePaul University College of Law, you can complete the JD/MIEBL in three years, with no additional tuition fees.
In the first-year at DePaul, your studies focus on the core JD curriculum. During your second semester, you may apply for admission to the master's portion of the dual-degree program. Admission to the program is competitive and requires a minimum GPA of 3.0.
During the second year, you concentrate on the MIEBL coursework, studying at Pontificia Universidad Comillas Madrid. All MIEBL classes are conducted in English, but you have the option to take courses in Spanish. The MIEBL course credits transfer completely toward the 86 credit hours required for a DePaul JD and are considered equivalent to two full semesters in the DePaul JD program.
In the third year, you must satisfy all remaining JD requirements at DePaul. This includes, but is not limited to: Legal Analysis, Research & Communication (LARC) III; Legal Profession, an approved professional skills course; and an approved advanced legal writing course.
Upon graduating, you receive a JD from DePaul University College of Law and a Master's in International and European Business Law from Pontificia Universidad Comillas Madrid.
The JD/MIEBL program meets all relevant ABA criteria for student study at a foreign institution.
Program Courses
The required MIEBL coursework is structured around four main modules and is complemented with practical seminars, clinics and a master's thesis. View the list of courses here.
