JD/Master in International & European Business Law
Overview
The JD and Master in International and European Business Law (MIEBL) is an innovative three-year, joint degree program that offers a unique opportunity to receive a degree in International and European Business Law along with DePaul's JD. During the second year of law school, participants spend two full semesters at Pontificia Universidad Comillas School of Law in Madrid — the highest-ranked private law school in Spain and one of the most prestigious law schools in Europe.

Requirements and Courses
Full-time students enrolled at the College of Law may complete the JD/MIEBL in three years, with no additional tuition fees. First-year studies focus on the core JD curriculum.
- During the second semester of the first year, students may apply for admission to the master's portion of the dual-degree program. Admission to the program is competitive, with a 3.0 GPA generally recommended. However, students who demonstrate motivation, independence and the ability to succeed in the program may still be considered for admission.
- During the second year, students selected for the program concentrate on MIEBL coursework, studying at Pontificia Universidad Comillas, Madrid. MIEBL classes are conducted in English, with the option to take courses in Spanish. Twenty-eight of the MIEBL course credits transfer fully toward the 86 credits required for a DePaul JD, making it possible for students to receive a JD within the standard three-year time period.
- In their third year, students return to Chicago to satisfy all remaining JD requirements at DePaul. These include, but are not limited to, Legal Analysis, Research and Communication (LARC III), Legal Profession and an approved legal skills course. The standard requirement of an approved advanced legal writing course is satisfied through the master's thesis that students are required to write in Madrid as part of the MIEBL program.
- Upon graduation, students receive a DePaul JD and a Master in International and European Business Law from Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Madrid. The JD/MIEBL program meets all relevant ABA criteria for student study at a foreign institution.
Universidad Comillas makes an effort to place program participants in Madrid in legal internships, so that in addition to their academic work students also can gain practical experience in the practice of transnational business law. Many MIEBL program participants have been placed in internships at prestigious law firms.
