Special Education Advocacy Clinic
Training Future Special Education Advocates
As the number of children with disabilities in Illinois continues to increase, there is a great need for knowledgeable special education attorneys. The creation of the clinic is substantiated by the convergence of this increasing number with several major factors, including the strain on parents with limited resources, the scarcity and expense of legal representation, and the lack of legal training for law students and attorneys interested in special education law.
The clinic seeks to inspire students in developing the knowledge and skills required of special education law practitioners through the study of special education law as it applies to real clients and active cases. Under the close supervision of a special education attorney, law students gain practical legal experience as they interview clients, meet with medical and educational experts, conduct factual investigations, and represent clients at special education proceedings.
