Where: University Club

Global Health: Pandemics, Poverty, & Policy will explore a broad range of health issues that are pertinent on a local, national, but most emphatically global level. Using a multidisciplinary approach, expert panelists will discuss pandemics and poverty with a particular focus on legal and policy considerations. The issues will be discussed from the perspective of a range of stakeholders, including public health officials, health law practitioners, impoverished individuals and society at large. This Symposium is intended to mesh with DePaul's vital connection to the community, its support of diversity, and its pragmatism in bringing the few together to consider and seek resolution of the problems of many. To accomplish this goal, the Health Law Institute has partnered with other College of Law units including the Center for Public Interest Law and the Schiller, DuCanto and Fleck Family Law Center, as well as with DePaul’s Master of Public Health Program, University Ministry, and the DePaul Public Service Program. In addition, the Symposium will assemble practitioners from a broad range of public welfare disciplines, DePaul students and alumni, and policymakers and community advocates from around the country, to discuss innovative, progressive approaches to social justice in the context of local, national, and international responses to pandemics and to domestic and international poverty reflecting the global nature of public health in the 21st century.
Global Health: Pandemics, Poverty and Policy, and is intended to bring together diverse professionals and consumers to discuss the panoply of issues that must be factored in to developing comprehensive policy with regard to the global nature of health care and public health. The symposium will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the University Club, 76 E. Monroe Street, Chicago.
