"Within the first week of my job with Walgreens Compliance, I was assigned two large state statute research assignments. First, I looked at state regulations for closing a medical facility, and second, I researched what a company needed to do if they possessed personal information not covered under HIPAA. After completing that intensive research project, I was given more business compliance projects. These diverse projects truly allowed me to fully understand the many sides of corporate compliance within a health care company." — Summer Scholar Karen Kelleher, Walgreens Co.
"At the AMA, I was given the opportunity to research and write memoranda concerning a wide variety of medical ethics and legal issues, including physician liability in online communications, donor rights in bio-banking, and proper disclosure of financial conflict of interests in government-funded research. I also reviewed and analyzed health law regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid conditions of participation and hospital accreditation per Joint Commission standards. If not for being a law student at DePaul, I would not have come across this unique opportunity." — Summer Scholar Ryan Bailey, American Medical Association
