Health Law Extern Testimonials

"During the summer of my 1L year, I had the amazing experience of being chosen as the DePaul Scholar for the Health Law Institute and was placed with the American Medical Association in their Ethics Department. The Ethics Department is responsible for putting together the Code of Medical Ethics, a book that is followed not only by some states as the actual law, but by all AMA physicians. The Code of Ethics compiles ethical opinions from the AMA and references cases in which the courts have actually used the Code. I had the great opportunity of contributing through legal and ethical research in helping to revise the Code, which is a continuous process. I was even able to get published in their Ethics Journal, which as a 1L, I know is almost impossible to be published at such an early stage of my law school career, especially at the American Medical Association." — Yesenia Perez (JD ’15)

"As a law student, my internship at the American Medical Association was an invaluable opportunity. It combined my business and health law interests into one program. I learned how certain health laws, such as HIPPA and the Sunshine Act, impact physicians and businesses. I received first-hand knowledge about how physicians view various aspects of the Affordable Care Act. I became familiar with the types of considerations that in-house counsels must make before they advise the corporation. I was also introduced to the daily life of a transactional attorney. All these experiences will help me be a successful attorney." — Desalina Williams (JD ’14)
